Definition
A linear polymer of nucleotides containing the sugar ribose, often bending to form complex spatial structures stabilized by hydrogen bonds between bases of nonadjacent nucleotides. It functions in gene expression and protein synthesis in all living forms and is hypothesized to have been the basis of early, precellular life.
