Definition
An identifier of a resource available on the Internet, such as a webpage. URLs are made up of an address on the Internet with a prefix indicating the protocol that should be used to access that location. For example, http://www.whitehouse.gov is a URL for a resource located at the domain name www.whitehouse.gov. The prefix http indicates that the resource can be accessed with the HTTP protocol, meaning it is a webpage. URLs can be used for many other protocols, such as FTP or Telnet.
