Definition

Let S={f_0, f_1, f_2, ... } be a collection of square integrable functions on I. If <f_n,f_m> = 0 whenever n does not equal m, then the collection S is said to be an orthogonal system on I. If, in addition, each f_n has norm 1, then S is said to be orthonormal on I.
