Definition

If a is in C (the complex numbers) and r>0, the path g defined by the equation g(x) = a + re^(-ix), where 0 <= x <= 2pi, then g(x) moves n times around the circle in the opposite direction and the winding number is -n. Such a path g(x) is said to be negatively oriented.
