Definition
Let F be a subfield of C (the field of complex numbers) that contains the pth root of unity (where p is prime), and let K/F be a Galois extension of degree p. Then K is obtained by adjoining a pth root. In other words, K is generated over F by an element b, with b^p in F. Extensions of this type are often called Kummer extensions.
