Definition
Acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group used to describe a compression standard set up by that group and now widely accepted for the storage and transmission of colour images. The JPEG compression standard reduces the size of image files considerably, although it is a lossy compression format. Repeating editing and resaving JPEGs will adversely affect their appearance.
