Definition
A change in the rate of exploitation of prey by an individual predator as a result of a change in prey density. Type I: Exploitation is directly proportional to prey density. Type II: Exploitation levels off at high prey density (predator satiation). Type III: As Type II, but exploitation is additionally low at low prey density owing to lack of a search image or to efficient prey escape mechanisms.
