A utility designed to check for and remove computer viruses from a computer system. Most antivirus programs detect a virus in two ways: first, by searching every file on the system in an attempt to match thousands of virus “signature” code fragments; second, by monitoring the system in order to detect the malicious activities of viruses that were not detected by the first technique
