Nitric Oxide (No)

  • Definition: A colorless gas produced by natural bacterial action in soil and by combustion processes at high temperatures. In polluted air, nitric oxide can react with ozone and hydrocarbons to form other substances. In this manner, it acts as an agent in the production of photochemical smog.
