Punctuated Equilibrium

  • Definition: A model of evolution in which morphological evolutionary change is discontinuous, being associated primarily with discrete: geologically instantaneous events of speciation leading to phylogenetic branching; morphological evolutionary stasis characterizes species between episodes of speciation.
