  • Definition: The inverse of a function is defined when the function is one-to-one and onto. The inverse of f is the function g, where for all x, f(x) = y if and only if g(y) = x.

  • Example: One example is taking the negative of a number, f(x) = -x. In this case f is its own inverse.
