Definition
The tangent function is defined by tan(x) = sin(x)/cos(x) where sin(x) is the sine function and cos(x) is the cosine function. Usually the tangent of an angle theta in a right triangle is the ratio of the side lengths opposite to the angle and the adjacent angle.
Example
tan(x) = sin(x)/cos(x) Graph example: http://www. analyzemath.com/trigonometry/graph_tangent.gif
