Definition

In particularly hazardous conditions involving volatile or easily aerosolized toxicants, protective equipment may be necessary in addition to protective clothing. Such equipment includes closed-circuit air masks, gas masks, etc. In addition to personal items such as gas masks, industrial and agricultural processes may be designed specifically to reduce exposure; for example, closed systems for mixing pesticides have been developed to protect applicators, mixers and loaders.
