Definition
A pair of nitrogenous bases, most commonly one purine and one pyrimidine, held together by hydrogen bonds in a double-stranded region of a nucleic acid molecule; commonly abbreviated bp, the term is often used interchangeably with the term nucleotide pair. The normal base pairs in DNA are A-T and G-C.
