Coordinate Transformation

  • Definition: Let T be an open subset of R^n. A vector-valued function g:T -> R^n is called a coordinate transformation on T if it has the following three properties: a) g is in C', the set of functions with continuous first partials, on T. b) g is one-to-one on T. c) The Jacobian determinant J_g(t)=det Dg(t) which is not equal to 0 for all t in T.
