Directional Derivative

  • Definition: The directional derivative of f at c in the direction of u, denoted by the symbol f '(c; u), is defined by the equation f '(c; u) = lim_(h goes to 0) [f(c+hu)-f(c)]/h, whenever the limit on the right exists.
