Free Group

  • Definition: Let {x_i} be a family of elements of a group G. Suppose each x_i generates an infinite cyclic subgroup G_i of G. If F is the free product of the groups {G_i}, then G is said to be a free group, and the family {x_i} is called a system of free generators.
