Parametric Equations

  • Definition: Parametric equations are equations x and y that were given as functions of a third variable t. Each value of t determines a point (x, y), which we can plot in a coordinate plane.

    Source: "Multivariable Calculus" by James Stewart

  • Example: x = f(t), y = g(t)

    x= a(t-sin(t)) y=a(tin(t)), how do get this answer dx^ 2a(1-cos(t))dt^2?
