Definition: (Abbreviation of Transmission or Transfer Control Protocol) A network protocol that specifies the way two computers on the Internet are connected and the way data is exchanged between them. TCP specifies how data transmitted from one computer to another is broken into packets. It is generally used with IP, which is responsible for routing packets to their destination. TCP also has procedures for making sure that the packets arrive undamaged and are assembled in the correct order.
