Chemical Engineering

  • Definition: Chemical engineering is concerned with processes for transforming raw materials into energy and into a great variety of consumer products, such as gasoline, electronic materials, pulp and paper, fertilizers, rubber, polymers and composites, and pharmaceuticals. Chemical engineers work on research and development of these materials and on the processes for making them, as well as on the design and operation of chemical plants and equipment by which production is achieved. This must be done with efficiency, economy, and concern for society and the environment.
