Definition: Psychology involves the scientific study of behavior and its causes and the understanding of human and animal behavior in a variety of settings. Psychology is studied both as a natural science, which stresses physical and biological causes of behavior, and as a social science, which stresses the effects of the social setting on human and animal behavior. Major areas of emphasis are human cognition and perception, animal behavior, behavioral neuroscience, developmental, social and personality, and clinical psychology.
