Anybody is elidgible, though really you should be one of the stakeholders in ASL development. To create an account on this Forum, register for one.
No. There are several different sets of privileges associated with different accounts. By and large, most accounts are those of ordinary users. Users with these accounts can post new signs and discuss them in the forums. However, if you've been involved for a while and have contributed significantly, we may choose to grant you some subset of administrative privileges. Administrators can manage submitted content and, sometimes, other users.
For the most part, we require basic electronic contact and identity information in order to hold you accountable for the content you submit. This goes only as far as preventing vandals from further damaging the Forum, introducing inappropriate, obscene, or garbage content.
No personal information, required or optional, will ever be distributed to any third party in a way that identifies you. Absolutely no personal information will be distributed to advertisers or business interests. We may, however, share some non-identifying information gained from your usage of the the forum with researchers in linguistics, computer science, sociology, and other related fields. To completely anonymize you, we will not share any data which contains your:
- e-mail address
- Forum username
- computer IP or MAC addresses
We will use personally-identifying information only internally for the purpose of controlling spam and site vandalism. We also use non-identifying information to look at demographics and trends in site use, ASL growth, and to diagnose unmet user needs. This information includes your city, state, and language preference.
You can change any of the details of your account by clicking the "Edit Account" link in the upper-right corner of every Forum page. If the link does not appear there, you are most likely not logged in. Try logging in, and if that fails, contact us.
To change your password, go ahead and use the "Edit Account" link in the upper-right corner of each Forum page. Be sure to only click the submission button for the password section of the page.
We don't store your password in our database, so we can't tell you what your password is. However, you can use the "Forgot your password?" page to have a new random password e-mailed to you. You can then log in with the random password and change it to a more memorable password in your account settings page.
Not at the moment. We understand, however, that e-mail addresses do go in and out of use, and will make this possible in the near future. If you require an immediate e-mail change for legitimate reasons (i.e. the e-mail address currently associated with your forum account is to be discontinued), please contact us directly.
To view a high-level summary of your account, your information, and your recent usage, click the "My Home" link in the top-right portion of each page. Note that this link will not exist if you aren't a member or you're not logged in. To become a member, register; otherwise, simply sign in.
On the right you'll see a brief review of your personal information as well as some usage statistics. On the left hand side you'll see topics you've recently discussed, as well as information about the most recent signs you've posted (if any).
